Director of Advancement
Organization
The Syracuse Symphony Orchestra is a major, full-time orchestra performing approximately 200 concerts during its 39 week season, including classics, pops, family, holiday, chamber orchestra, education, ensemble and summer parks concerts. With an annual budget of $7 million, one of the Orchestra’s many distinctions is its commitment to regional touring throughout Central and Northern New York State. In addition to its home series in Syracuse, the Orchestra performs self-presented subscription series in Watertown, Rome and Cortland. The Orchestra also runs out performances to over twenty additional communities throughout New York State.
Role
The Director of Advancement is a member of the senior leadership team and responsible for advancing individual donor commitment to the SSO, as part of the comprehensive patron development plan, by managing the identification, solicitation, and stewardship of Platinum Level Baton Society donors ($5,000+), preparing and implementing an upcoming endowment campaign, staffing standing board committees, and providing support as needed to the board of trustees.
S/he will demonstrate and model appropriate professional behavior at all times towards colleagues, clients, donors and any other individuals associated with the SSO.
Qualifications
Requires four-year degree and tens years development and volunteer management experience required. CFRE preferred. Outstanding writing and communication skills required. Ability to work in a team environment required.
Compensation
Compensation based on experience; paid vacation, medical/dental, parking.

2010 Fall Internship Opportunities with the SSO
Marketing
Interns in the SSO's marketing and public relations department assist with projects that include maintaining our media database, writing press releases, maintaining our presence on social networking websites, creating promotional materials and working on overall marketing and PR strategies for SSO concerts. Candidates for internships in this department should be outgoing individuals with meticulous attention to detail, willing to take on various projects. Design experience is a plus.

Development
Join the development staff and assist with projects including grant writing, special event planning, and industry research. Also, work with experienced fundraisers to learn fundraising techniques and processes. Successful interns have strong persuasive writing skills and can easily balance many tasks.
