Fred Klemperer
First Violin
Joined the SSO: 1969
Born: Bronx, NY
Residence: Syracuse, NY
Education: B.A. Music Ithaca College
Earliest musical memory: My parents playing 4-hand piano duets and my grandfather playing violin. Sunday opera broadcasts on the radio, Gilbert and Sullivan recordings, and the "Lone Ranger" theme before every radio show.
Most influential teachers: Donald Weilerstein, Thomas Michalak and Jeff Holm.
Favorite composer/musical work: Anything by Mozart, and Barber's Adagio for Strings.
Favorite aspect of the performances experience: Realizing how individuals can come together as a team to produce sometimes spectacular sounds and performances.
Favorite part of being a member of the SSO: Many rewarding musical moments. The admiration and respect of those who appreciate music. Flexibility of schedule to enjoy family activities others might not.
When I'm not onstage, you might find me: Playing or teaching racquetball, gardening, reading, golfing, playing softball, online.
My favorite thing about Central New York is: Low cost of living, the Adirondacks, proximity to work and to other major metropolitan areas, beautiful spring and summer.
More: I am sincerely grateful to CNY audiences who have supported the musicians through thick and thin, over the years. At times, when the lights seemed to be dimming for the orchestra, the audience made sure they stayed on, and that we knew we were valued.
