Big Broadway Stars Shine With Crowd Favorites

SYRACUSE, NY – The Syracuse Symphony Orchestra (SSO) captures the magic of Broadway with blockbuster stars and show-stopping tunes. Ron Spigelman, conductor, will be joined by special guests: Capathia Jenkins, Anne Runolfsson, Rob Evan, Doug LaBrecque and the Syracuse Symphony Pops Chorus.

Listeners will recognize seminal classics such as “Jesus Christ Superstar” from Jesus Christ Superstar, “Music of the Night” from Phantom of the Opera and more recent songs like “Seasons of Love” from Rent, “For Good” from Wicked and “This Is the Moment” from Jekyll and Hyde.

The concert is on Friday, February 5 and Saturday, February 6 at 8:00 p.m. in the Mulroy Civic Center at Oncenter. Haylor, Freyer & Coon, Inc. and Kemper A Unitrin Business are sponsoring Friday’s concert and Anoplate is sponsoring Saturday night’s concert. Capathia Jenkins

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Jenkins made her Broadway debut in The Civil War, where she created the role of Harriett Jackson. She most recently released an album titled, One Ounce of Truth: The Nikki Giovanni Songs. Her appearances include Birdland, Steppenwolf in Chicago, Cleveland Orchestra, National Symphony, Minnesota Symphony and the Hong Kong Philharmonic.

Anne Runolfsson

Runolfsson recently completed a two-year run on Broadway as Carlotta Giudacelli in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera. She also played the leading role in the touring company of Victor/Victoria and starred in many other Broadway, off-Broadway and Broadway touring companies. Runolfsson has also appeared as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Kennedy Center, the Concertgebow in Amsterdam, The National Symphony, and numerous other orchestras.

Rob Evan

Evan starred in the original Broadway cast of Jekyll & Hyde and has performed his rendition of “This Is the Moment” at numerous prestigious events including the 2001 Inaugural Gala for President George W. Bush, the 1998 and 1999 New York Yankees World Series Celebration at City Hall and the “Today Show.” His other Broadway credits include Jean Valjean in Les Miserables and Kerchak in Disney’s Tarzan. Evans is also a member of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and is featured across the country as a guest soloist.

Doug LaBrecque

LaBrecque has performed the role of The Phantom and Raoul in the Harold Prince production of The Phantom of the Opera and starred as Ravenal in Broadways’ Showboat. He is also an active concert performer as a soloist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra. He is also an international soloist singing with the Korean National Symphony, Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, the Hong Kong Philharmonic and the Prague Music Festival.

During its 39-week season, the 80-member Syracuse Symphony Orchestra performs for more than 237,000 audience members through 213 full-orchestra and ensemble concerts in 17 counties throughout New York State.
