School Concerts
To place an order for an Education Concert, visit SSOKids.org.

Research has shown that arts education has a positive influence on student social development and performance in other academic areas.

Educators at all levels have many choices when it comes to integrating orchestral and chamber music, as performed the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra and its resident chamber ensembles, into the curriculum.

The Syracuse Symphony Orchestra is an educational resource, and we can provide ideas on how to use music to address the New York State Learning Standards, while enriching the lives of students.

Resources for Teachers
Prior to the first Education Concert of the 2007-2008 Season, a comprehensive Concert Guide will be mailed to those teachers who have made concert reservations. The Concert Guide will include program notes, composer biographies, class plans, worksheets, suggested activities and collaborative projects addressing the New York State Learning Standards in Music, Visual Art, English/Language Arts and Social Studies. The Concert Guide will also be available online.

In addition to the printed Concert Guide, the SSO is pleased to announce a new agreement with Naxos Records. Through the generous support of the KARE Foundation of Syracuse, audio CDs will be mailed as a supplement to the Concert Guide. When pieces performed on SSO concerts are available through the Naxos label, audio clips of those pieces will be sent to teachers for classroom study prior to hearing each piece performed live by the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.

Contact the SSO Education Department at 315.424.8222, ext. 272, for more information or to purchase tickets, or order online!

Funding
Schools that participate in a BOCES program are eligible to receive funding for Arts in Education activities, including attendance at Syracuse Symphony Orchestra Carrier Corporation Education Series Symphony Kids or Young Persons Concerts. Call your BOCES office for details on how you can take advantage of this valuable resource. The SSO Education Manager may be able to provide other suggestions for securing other types of funding for your school.
