Syracuse Children's Chorus, Dr. Barbara Marble Tagg, Artistic Director and Founder
Syracuse Children's Chorus has performed from Carnegie Hall to China, serving as Central New York's musical ambassadors to the world. The mission of the Syracuse Children's Chorus is to teach artistry and excellence through the study and performance of outstanding choral music. Founded at Syracuse University in 1981 by Dr. Barbara Marble Tagg, the Chorus is recognized for musical excellence and as a model for performance-based choral music education.
Dr. Tagg conducts the Senior Choir and Chorale. She is also an Affiliate Artist at Syracuse University where she conducts the SU Women's Choir and is a member of the choral music education faculty. Dr. Tagg has presented concerts and workshops in England, Europe, Canada, Hong Kong and China, as well as for universities and choral organizations throughout the United States.
Committed to the advancement of the American choral profession, Dr. Tagg is a member of the board of directors of Chorus America, where she recently finished a two-year term as Secretary. She has completed 20 years of service for the American Choral Directors Association where she chaired the National Committee on Children's Choirs and was the first nationally elected Chair of the Repertoire & Standards Committee.
Recognized for her dedication to American music and new compositions, Dr. Tagg has premiered more than 75 works for treble choirs. She conducts the annual Keynote Arts Associates Children in Harmony Choral Festival in Orlando, Florida and the Adirondack Children's Chorus at the Adirondack Festival of American Music in Saranac Lake. She is an honorary member of the Ernst Bacon Foundation, a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, and has been honored by ACDA, the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Civic Morning Musicals, and Sigma Alpha Iota for her commitment to musical excellence, music education and to the choral art.
